RESC Alliance Congratulates Teachers of the Year

Inspiring, energetic, compassionate, dedicated, dynamic – there is no shortage of adjectives to describe the teachers that make Connecticut public schools elite.

The RESC Alliance is proud to congratulate educators from across the state who have been selected as the Teachers of the Year for their respective school districts. All of the honorees are in consideration for Connecticut Teacher of the Year, who will be announced on Dec. 4.

Four of the Regional Educational Service Centers belonging to the RESC Alliance – ACES, C.E.S., CREC, and LEARN – named Teachers of the Year from their respective agencies and magnet schools. They are:

ACES Mary Beth Petr Kindergarten Teacher ACES Wintergreen Interdistrict Magnet School, North Haven

Mary Beth Petr emphasizes communication and compassion in her classroom and has high expectations for all her young learners. She strives to create a positive environment for every student and has worked with ACES since 1998.

C.E.S. Carrie Evans 1st Grade Teacher Six to Six Magnet School, Bridgeport

Carrie Evans values the relationships she’s built with students, families, and her colleagues. She’s built a career at Six to Six, beginning as an Instructional Aide in 2006 before becoming a reading teacher and ultimately a 1st and 2nd grade teacher.

CREC Carl Destefanis Teacher of the Hearing Impaired CREC Soundbridge, Wethersfield

Carl Destefanis is a true inspiration and example to his students that obstacles can be surpassed. He overcame his own hearing disabilities to become an excellent teacher, traveling throughout the state to work with students and establish relationships.

LEARN Audrey Kelly 5th Grade Teacher Riverside Magnet School, East Hartford

Audrey Kelley has been a mentor and role model to her colleagues as her school has expanded to accommodate a fifth grade. Her students love her for her energy, her creative lessons, and allowing them to explore their academic passions.
